The Aberaman Colliery was established by Crawshay Bailey in 1845 and later acquired by the Powell Duffryn Steam Coal Company in 1866 following their purchase of the Aberaman Estate. In 1947, the colliery underwent nationalisation, transferring ownership to the National Coal Board. The colliery ceased operations in 1965. The presence of the embossed name of the British Coal Miners Company Wales UK (later the National Coal Board) on this lamp indicates that it was manufactured between 1947 and 1965. The inclusion of the owner company’s name, the colliery’s designation, and the serial number further substantiates the authenticity of the lamp.
